Subaru's North American manufacturing site in Indiana prides itself on a clean production process. The site is so clean that it was identified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation in 2003, and currently shelters an array of animals including bald eagles, snapping turtles, whitetail deer, frogs and blue herons.
Subaru Indiana is the first automotive manufacturer to achieve zero landfill material in the production process and the first manufacturer in North America to be certified to the recent version of ISO14001 environmental management standard that requires the development of strict environmental policies.
Today Subaru offers customers the opportunity to purchase Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV). A PZEV is 90 per cent cleaner than the average new car because its upgraded engine eliminates the creation of pollutants, sending cleaner air from its tailpipes.
